‘Serenity Room” provides quiet space

Hudson, New York – Columbia Memorial Health has opened a "Serenity Room" in the main hospital at 71 Prospect Avenue. The room is intended as a resource for any person seeking a quiet place to reflect, pray or calm their mind. The new room on the first floor of the hospital across from patient registration, is adorned with artwork donated by Patricia Lemmerman and the family of Jeanette Winant, and a quilt handmade by CMH Pharmacist Kim Plass. The room was also designed to incorporate the original pews and stain glass window panels from the former CMH Chapel. "We are so very thankful to everyone who made this room possible. Sometimes the simplicity of just a moment or two of quiet reflection can be extraordinarily helpful in coping with stressful or trying moments in life. New Nuclear Camera Improves Diagnosis of Cardiac Conditions Patients Benefit From More Accurate Diagnostic Imagery, Shorter Scan Times (Hudson, NY) Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) today announced the acquisition and installation of state of the art scanning technology that will significantly improve the diagnosis of numerous common and rare cardiac conditions. The scanner was purchased with the support of the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation, which relies on the generosity of community donors. The new scanning device, known as the Symbia Evo Excel, is a single-photon emission computerized tomography device -- commonly called a “nuclear camera” -- that provides real-time scans of patient heart function. According the Dr. Hiral N. Amin, MD, a cardiologist at CMH’s Twin County Cardiology practice, the new technology is instrumental in testing heart function via “stress tests.” The machine can accurately measure blood flow in the hearts of patients to diagnose any irregular circulatory activity. Awarded “Clean Facility” Certification by the Association for the Health Care Environment (Hudson, New York) Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) today announced its hospital in Hudson has earned a “Clean Facility” certificate from the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), a national authority on health care environmental services, and professional membership group of the American Hospital Association. The certification is part of the AHE’s Pathways to Clean Certificate Program that was initiated in response to COVID-19. The extensive national program includes training and education on a number of critical topics including: infection prevention strategies, cleaning, disinfection, sanitation, emerging pathogens, and preparedness for biological events. CMH FOUNDATION AND THE STEWART’S SHOPS/DAKE FAMILY FOUNDATION JOIN FORCES TO SECURE CUTTING EDGE BONE SCANNING TECHNOLOGY

(Hudson, NY) The Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) Foundation recently funded the latest in Bone Densitometry technology for CMH’s Greene Medical Imaging Center with the support of a generous grant of $25,000 from Stewart’s Shops/Dake Family Foundation. The cutting edge technology, known as the Hologic Horizon DXA System, does more than just measure bone density. The multi-faceted system help clinicians assess bone health, body composition and other critical elements that will help patients stay healthy, strong and active. Standard X-rays cannot be used in place of bone density tests as they are not able to show osteoporosis until the disease is well advanced. This new scanning technology allows earlier diagnosis, which provides greater opportunities to mitigate osteoporosis and prevent broken bones. The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) recommends that all women over 65, younger post-menopausal women with certain risk factors, and men over 70 talk to their doctors about undergoing a bone density test to diagnose osteoporosis. The test usually takes less than 15 minutes and is non-invasive. COLUMBIA MEMORIAL HEALTH FOUNDATION FUNDS STATE-OF-THE-ART SURGICAL X-RAY

Columbia Memorial Health recently upgraded it surgical X-ray technology with a new “C-Arm” machine. The device, pictured on the left, significantly improves the quality of images taken during surgical procedures, providing surgeons with real-time, higher resolution visual information to aid their work. The acquisition was made possible through a grant by the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation, CMH’s philanthropic arm. Funds Will Secure Upgrade To CMH’s Cardiac Telemetry Technology Hudson, N.Y. August 20, 2020 – The Columbia Memorial Health Foundation today announced it has received a $50,000 grant from the HRBT Foundation to upgrade Columbia Memorial Health’s (CMH) state-of-the-art cardiac telemetry technology. The technology, known as the SPACELABS Telemetry System, has been in use at CMH for several years. The upgrade to the system to be acquired via the HRBT grant will offer improved real-time recognition of cardiac waveform changes and provide immediate notification to the CMH medical team of irregularities. The benefit to patients is an even more rapid response, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac related events. The system will further enhance CMH’s pursuit of constantly improving clinical outcomes by providing seamless data acquisition and exchange across the hospital, and affording providers remote access to patient data. The upgrade will also allow CMH to monitor patients on every hospital unit, including the Emergency Department and Rapid Decision Unit. Ultrasound Devices Will Aid Diagnosis of COVID-19 and Other Ailments in CMH’s Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit and Rapid Care Centers in Valatie and Copake Hudson, N.Y. July 21, 2020 Columbia Memorial Health today announced it has received three ultrasound scanning devices donated by “Radiologists Without Borders.” Useful in many applications, the handheld devices are particularly well suited to be used at the bedside to generate chest scans of COVID-19 patients, eliminating the need to move patients to other areas where traditional scanning equipment is installed in fixed locations. The devices will be used in CMH’s Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit in Hudson, and at its Rapid Care Centers in Valatie and Copake, further enhancing CMH’s advanced diagnostic capabilities. With nearly 250 guests in attendance, the largest crowd ever for Winter Blast, Ms. Thorn was presented with CMH’s prestigious Clara Kellner Award for public service. William A. Roos Named to CMH Foundation Board

Hudson, N.Y. December 17, 2019 William A. Roos, IV, Esq. of Kinderhook has been named as a new member of the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation Board of Trustees, the philanthropic arm of Columbia Memorial Health. Roos is an attorney admitted in 1969 to practice law in New York State and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of NY. He received a BA from Trinity College, Hartford CT, and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Philadelphia, PA. Roos was in private practice for 37 years at the Wall Street law firm of Reynolds Richards, serving as managing partner for many years. He also served as outside general counsel of the American Horse Shows Association and USA Equestrian. Roos currently serves as Assistant Secretary and General Counsel to USA Equestrian Trust, Inc., and as Secretary and General Counsel to the NYS YMCA Foundation. He also formerly served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the United States Equestrian Federation, the current national governing body for equestrian sports in the US.
